This is so fantastically written, Adrian. The segment about travel pulling you out of yourself is something I know all too well (whether for the better or the worse). I'm American myself and just leaving Vancouver, any wiping of typical Americanism makes me feel so much calmer.
I actually went to Iceland last year for a few days. I needed an escape and a reminder of the world outside before some things went into place. And I adored the landscapes but agree with the amount of tourists and the tourism. Your perspective with 2 different trips and the changes were interesting to read about, because being from somewhere that I'm used to the tourist stuff makes me forget how odd it is in nature.
